College Mathematics Beliefs and Belonging Survey

Academic schools, such as colleges and their constituent departments within larger universities, are increasingly being expected to increase revenues and reduce expenditures in a challenging financial environment. Yet relatively little is known about schools’ resource allocation decisions. In this research, I used detailed personnel spending data from HelioCampus to examine personnel expenses per student credit hour and credential produced by academic schools and spending patterns on administrative functions. I also analyzed where schools reduced personnel numbers during difficult budgets, and cuts disproportionately fell on non-faculty members and those focused on key administrative responsibilities.
